Thanks lee...your a sweety. Yes I'm having a wonderful time. Venice is the most amazing city! Saturday was hot but overcast so it made for a perfect day.
I have learned that there are very traditional rules to eating in Italy. For instance the other night I made a big mistake in eating a slice of cucumber after the fruit which ended the meal.Guido's Dad said he wouldn't do that if I paid him 10. euro! The first course is usually pasta or risotto, gnocci etc. Then comes the main course, meat, potatoes etc, then salad or vegetables. Fruit usually ends the meal, followed by coffee. The dishes are presented in a manner of the lightest flavors first, and end with a light flavor. I have been here almost three weeks and Papa has not served the same dish twice. Today is lemon veal picatta...one of my favorites! I'm a slow eater partally due to my tummy problems but also it's just my habit, I was always the last one at the table.I like to savor my food.Guido likes everything very hot so he eats quickly.
Yes Lee...Italy is a must if only once. It is the most amazing country and in my three visits I still have not managed to see it all. I am reading Under The Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes. We have a lot in common in our love for this magical place. My time here is once again coming to a close. I am torn between home and Guido. But here is also home in my heart. My sister wrote and said she would like to come with me next time....well it's about time! _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

Well Italy is over and I am home. I got a shower and went right to bed and woke up at 6 am, starring at the ceiling...I hate jet lag. It seems as though I have been away a very long time. Saying goodbye to Guido and Italy is always hard. As crazy as that country can be I still love it.
But that won't be my last trip for certain. There are many more things to see and do there. Next time Pompeii and the Coliseum which I have not been inside yet! Ciao Italia...until next time...... _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |
