The Cornucopia Institute, a Wisconsin-based advocacy group, claims that Wal-Mart is defrauding its customers labeling some 'non organic' products as 'organic'.
The group, checked stores in five states, and found violations in all dozens stores they visited.

Wal-Mart, which uses green signs to identify organic selections at its stores, said any shelf labeling mistakes are isolated events and that it often mixes organic and conventional products on its shelves to make it easer for customers to find organic options.

Thats pretty bad. In the UK, Walmart own Asda, so the mistakes could be happening here too. I shop at Tesco so it wouldn't affect me Very Happy

I have noticed that supermarkets here have started having labels for salt, sugar, fats etc, and having the picture green if you can eat as much as you like, and red if you should only eat that product occasionally. I think thats a good idea, you get to become more responsible for what you're putting into your body (not that we werent before), and it takes the blame off of the companies for putting more fat and salt in the product - basically you can see exactly whats inside so its your own fault!

I think those labels are a great idea! I wish they would do that here. I'll have to pay more attention next time I grocery shop and see if we have anything like it. I really hate trying to read those little labels!

it does make things easier, they have them mostly on the microwave meals (i don't buy those Very Happy ) but they are also now on the normal things too. It's a really good idea, strange that they don't do it over there, you Americans are always more advanced in food than we are!!! Smile
