my dad said tonight that I should have bought a strawberry plant instead. the carrots have tiny little sprouts on tonight, but you have to really look for them, so i think i'll at least have a couple. the swedes are looking scary, im gonna need to buy another pot for them soon so I can split them up, there are loads of them!!
I got my bread machine out tonight ready for when i run out of bread. not gonna buy another loaf again at these prices!! also gonna keep my eyes open for reduced cream so I can make butter. I made pasta from scratch tonight - rolled it into thin sheets and put it in the freezer ready to cut when I need it.
I'm getting my own back on our greedy government!!! They're not having my money!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ Rain rain go away, come again another day |

i sound a bit like im on my soap box there!! i just get annoyed at the fact that bread in january cost 83p for the one i buy. now it costs £2!!! in 6 months it's more than doubled in cost! I know that some of that is because of the floods we had last year and a lot of the crops died, but hello, the cost of flour hasnt gone up that much! _________________ Rain rain go away, come again another day |

I know what you mean Paula. Food prices have gone up like crazy, as well as gasoline. Milk is running $3.90 a gal, bread is about $3.60 for a 1 pound loaf.
Gas is at $4.50 a gallon in my area.
So scoot over on that box and make room for me! _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

going back to my harping on about the rising cost of food, here are a few tips from Yahoo...
http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/04062008/404/three-ways-cut-food-bill.html
I also found this about growning veggies in your home / garden...
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080425124904AA17h2v
FYI - our carrots are sprouting now, pretty well too! The broccoli is doing ok ish and the swedes are in need of being split into an extra 2 troughs because they're taking over!! The basil sprouts have filled the pot but the poor old strawberry plant seems non-existant _________________ Rain rain go away, come again another day |

I don't know how people in Europe manage with gas prices as they are there.
You all have smaller engines though.
Basil takes a bit to sprout so don't give up on it. I wouldn't bother trying to transplsnt the swedes, root veggies don't do well when transplanted. I would just thin them out and throw the plucked sprouts away. _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

ok thanks. ill thin them out when they get a little bigger.
Petrol prices are disgusting here, when I brought my car 4 years ago, it would cost me £25 to fill the tank from empty (it's a 1.3 litre engine, so one of the smaller ones). This week it cost me £40. The rediculous thing is, a week and a half ago, it only cost me £35 to fill up! I will have to start catching the bus to work if it goes up even more, the only problem with that is, i'll have to catch 3 busses each way (minimum) and walk through an underpass (called Redway) that isn't well lit. In winter that will be really dangerous - the amount of people who get attacked on the redways is alarming. _________________ Rain rain go away, come again another day |
