Spice World
Knowing a culture's common seasonings opens the door to successful culinary experiments.



An easy way to get to know a culture's cuisine is to get familiar with its seasonings. Different cuisines tend to rely on many of the same herbs and spices, so once you've schooled yourself in the most prevalent ones, you can give your own culinary creations some ethnic flair.

Oregano, for instance, is common to both Mexican and Italian cuisines. But because it is used in different combinations for each cuisine, you get a totally different flavor profile in each. Read on to discover more.
