I will be heading to South Korea in the next couple weeks... Was hoping someone here could tell me what kind of Korean food to try while I am there.

I would try the real "Bulgogi", a traditional korean steak, marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, and green onions and grilled.
(you can see the recipe here at yummyfood)

"Kalbi-Jim", is the second traditional beef dish.
Basically are slow cooked short-ribs.

Both are served with "kimchi", vegetables (usually cabbage or white radish) fermented in a brine of anchovies, ginger, garlic, green onion and chilli pepper. There are infinite varieties.

One of the favorites snacks are "Kimbap or gimbap" - (literally seaweed rice) - rice and strips of vegetables, egg, ham and pollock, rolled in laver (seaweed) and sliced. This is a popular snack or child's lunch, similar to Japanese sushi rolls.

For the rest, grilled fish, or crustaceans, are pretty much a good choice.

Have a good trip!
ciao, Guido

Hi Bruce,

Korean food is very good and straight forward, with lots of grilled meats, tofu and vegetables. It can run on the spicy side so beware. I love kimchee and it's served at almost every meal, even breakfast. I have posted a link for you to check out for futher information, and a few warnings. Yes dog meat is served there still. I hope it gives you some insight.
