This is an easy way to remove the fat from a a sauce type dish that you plan to serve immediately. Turn the heat off under the food and let it sit until the fat collects at the top.Cut the crusts off of a couple of pieces of bread, enough to fit over the surface of the dish, and lay them on the surface to absorb the grease. Depending on how much fat there is to remove you may have to do this twice.

A good use for the bread that you use to soak up the fat on a saucy dish is to broil/bake the bread in the oven (after you have abosorbed the grease.) Once the bread is crisp, cut it into bite size pieces for croutons, crackers or to use in a dip. Mosy toasted bread will keep in an air tight container for a couple of weeks. What a way to impress guests (or family), not to mention they taste incredible!

Happy Eating!

good idea but then you'll know how much fat is in them. if that was me it would put me off a bit. if i cook things with loads of fat in them im way less likely to eat it than if i brought it from the shop and it had exactly the same amount! Confused

I know what you mean, the seeing does tend to deter one a bit.
