Ya'll have probably bobbed for apples when you were a kid. Well to make it a lot of fun on Halloween...mix up some lemon lime slime for the apples to float in! Mix up 4 or 5 large boxes of lime gelatin according to package directions. When the party gets started, empty the set gelatin into a metal wash tub or whatever you are using. It will soften up a bit as it sit out. Toss in some apples or for real fun, get some plastic eyes and fingers, or paint eyes on ping pong balls. Have plenty of paper towels handy to wipe off the slime!
Another fun food for the party is spider web cookies. make round cookies using my cut out cookie recipe. Mix up a batch of royal icing and color all but 2 cups black, using black paste color. Thin the black icing with a little water, you want the consistency of thin pancake batter.Place the white royal icing in a decorating bag fitted with a small round tip. Ice each cookie with the black icing and then using the pastry bag draw 2 or 3 circles, like a bulls eye, on each iced cookie. Draw a toothpich through the wet icing, starting in the middle of the cookie and pulling outward. Move the toothpick a little and repeat until you have a spider web design. The kids love to do this. Plop a black plastic spider in the middle of each cookie.Let cookies dry. Warn your guests not to eat the spiders! LOL

staying on the subject of halloween but deviating slightly, what is halloween all about? i heard a story when i was younger about some bloke called jack and jack o-lanterns are used to light the way so that jack can find his way from hell - where he went by mistake, back up to heaven - where he was supposed to go. not sure where i heard this but the only stories i could find on the internet are below and they are all different slightly! which ones has everyone else heard???

I checked out the websites you listed and they are very interesting, thanks for posting them. In the states, Halloween is a fun holiday, kids dress up and go to house, ring the bell and say " Trick Or Treat". The household gives them candy or small prizes. Many people dress up their houses with spooky stuff and wear costumes and have parties. Pumpkins are carved with funny or scarry faces and designs, thats the Jack O Lantern you referred to. Halloween has lost much of it's ancient signifance here, but their are people that celebrate it as a spiritual holiday.

This is probably the most reliabe history of halloween.

It's not an Italian thing, even if nowadays people get costumes and go party also here. More of a business than a real festivity.
I remember last year, a journalist was going around asking people what is Halloween.. No one could answer....

kids go trick or treating here too but its quite sad really because people go for money rather than sweets. you also get them trick or treating for a week or so before halloween and around a week after too. they dont carry the jack o-lanterns but people generally have them in their homes to "warn off evil spirits". its weird how things like that differ so much between countries

Wow that's odd. Here it starts just as it gets dark, or a bit earlier for the really little kids. I didn't have two many last year and was left with a hugh bowl of candy. If I had kids coming a week before or after I'd tell them your too late/early! You are right, strange how it changes from country to country.
