I was sat in work today (still am ) and heard that one of the marketing girls brough her very first onion yesterday! shes 22 and has never cooked a meal in her life thats not microwaved or sandwiches!!!! im 24 and have lived on my own (because i went away to university) since i was 18. iv never moved back home and have taught myself to cook so that i dont have to rely on fat filled microwave meals. i just figured thats what everyone did, i was shocked and amazed that a 22 year old woman has never even brought an onion before!!! is it just me, or is this a growing trend amongst the next generation (i feel like i sound old now)? how can people not know how to cook????? |

Good one Paula. I'm a bit older than you, and so is my daughter! I learned to cook at a very young age. I had a stay at home Mom and we all sat down to dinner each evening. I often helped my Mom cook dinner and make desserts. When my Mom went to work at night briefly, I was responsible for seeing my Dad had a good hot meal when he got home. My Mom saw this as teaching me to take care of myself and I was crazy to cook anyway so that helped. With more women working, they are not at home to teach their kids to cook. Kids have so many after school events that families are eating when ever they want. My oldest sister had her family at the table every night for dinner, and she worked. Both of my Nieces are excellent cooks. And my Nephew and his wife, with their crazy schedules, sit down to dinner with their two kids more nights than not. In Italy, lunch is a family affair all over, and everyone makes time to stop work and have lunch together. It's part of daily life there. So come on people, make family dinners an important part of family life, Make time for meals. _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

I applaud you Paula! Kids learn what they live I always say. My parents gave me the tools to be an independent and productive adult and for that I have always been greatful. Looks like you have fallen in love with an America classic! _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

Oh me too, and this year with my (our) bigger apartement I can have a real Christmas tree! I can hardly wait to have my first Christmas with Guido....sigh.
That site has an interesting story, I'll have to see if I can find it online, or perhaps it's some where on the web site. _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |

| you must be really excited. i feel bad for you that you dont get to see each other as much as you want to, but i suppose that makes your time together even more special. i see my boyfriend every day, and i miss him like mad when we're at work, he sneaks out and sees me at lunch time though and we pop to the cafe for a cup of tea. i couldnt imagine being that far apart from him. i really feel for the two of you xx |

It's not easy for sure, and thanks for the sentiments. We "visit" every day online, my morning if I'm not working and my evening. We use MSN video and voice and work on Yummyfood, chat and share bits of our days. Guido is closing his business and can't come here until everyone pays him. So hopefully it will be soon! Your right, our time together is very precious, though this August when he was here all we did was move and set up the new apartement! _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |
