If you can't find buttermilk at your grocery store, you can make your own. Just add 1 teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of 1 percent or 2 percent milk (this doesn't work very well with skim milk), and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.

Well BD,
It is not! we could not find buttermilk in the shops when Kate was here in Italy, so we made our own and the muffins we baked were yummy!
Vinegar or lemon is so few that you can't smell or taste it at all.

| i will have to agree im afraid, it sounds really weird. although i will have to try it next time im using a recipe that calls for buttermilk (no offence intended Guido) |
