I have a couple of seed blocks hanging from the roof on my balcony. It's fun to watch the birds and provides my cat with some entertainment. Don't worry, she's a persian, not a good jumper and not very graceful. So the birds are safe.
You can easily make your own seed blocks for the kids to hang outside.
You will need: Fairly heavy wire for holder and hanger. Popsicle sticks.
Old fashioned peanut butter.Honey.Bird seed mixture. Peanuts can also be added (shelled and raw, unsalted)
With a length of wire about 16 inches lone, wrap one end of the wire around the middle of a popsicle stick so that the wire and stick make an upside down T. Make a loop at the other end of the wire for the hanger.
In a bowl combine some peanut butter with a little honey. You want a fairly thick mixture. Now mix in the bird seed. You want the seed to just be coated enough with the peanut butter mixture to hold together.
Pack the seed mixture around the wire. Don't make the seed mass to thick. You can attempt to make shapes though I never had much luck with it.Place the blocks in a cool, dry area for a day or 2 to set up. The stick on the bottom acts as a platform for the block once it's dry.
Hang the finished blocks where the rain won't melt them and enjoy the view! _________________ A closed mouth gathers no feet. |
