Wonton Wrappers | Status Approved | | Name | Wonton Wrappers | | Category | Appetizers & Snacks, Asian | | Serves/Yields | About 2 dozen wrappers | | Difficulty | Moderate | | Prep. Time | About 1 hour | | Introduction | | Wonton wrappers are fairly easy to make and can be used for all types of oriental appetizers, from egg rolls to steamed dumplings. | | Ingredients | | 1 large egg
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 to1/2 cup water
1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/4 cup flour , mixed, for rolling | | Directions | | Step: 1 | In a small bowl, beat the egg with the salt and 1/4 cup of the water.
Sift the flour into a large bowl. Make a well in the middle of the flour and pour the egg and water mixture into the well. With a fork and working in a circular motion, stir the wet ingredients into the flour.
Add as much of the remaining water as necessary to form a dough. If the dough is to dry and won't form a ball, add more water, a little at a time until the dough holds together.
Form the dough into a ball and knead for about 5 minutes, or until it forms a smooth, workable dough. | | Step: 2 | Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes. Turn the dough out onto your rolling surface that has been dusted with the cornstarch and flour mixture.
Roll the dough out until very thin, and cut into 3 1/2-inch squares.Stack the squares with a square of waxed paper between each square if you are not going to use the
wrappers right away. Store in a plastic bag in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to use. |
