 Southern Style Banana Pudding | Status Approved | | Name | Southern Style Banana Pudding | | Category | Desserts, American | | Serves/Yields | 6 to 8 servings | | Source | Kate's own | | Difficulty | Easy | | Prep. Time | 10 minutes | | Cook Time | 10 to 15 minutes | | Introduction | | This is my easy recipe for an old southern classic and my daughter's favorite dessert. | | Ingredients | | 3/4 cups granulated_sugar 3 eggs 2 heaping Tbsp flour 2 1/4 cups whole milk 1/2 tsp salt 2 Tbsp butter 1 tsp vanilla_extract 4 ripe bananas 1 box vanilla wafers
| | Directions | | Step: 1 | In a 2 quart sauce pan, combine the dry ingredients and whisk to blend well. Add the eggs and a little milk and mix well, then slowly add the remaining milk and the butter.Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until pudding comes to a slow boil. Continue cooking and stirring until pudding begins to thicken. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Place a layer of the vanilla wafers in the bottom of a serving bowl, add a thin layer of the warm pudding, then a layer of sliced bananas. Continue with the layers, ending with the pudding. Arrange a few wafers on top as a garnish if desired, or top with lightly sweetened whipped cream. Chill before serving.
Note: You will probably have some wafers and bananas left over, it's always a toss up as to how many you will need. |

The custard came out a little thick but it was still workable. I didnt want to use a whole box of vanilla wafers, so i lined the bottom of the dish with them, then made a pretty pattern on top as well. It tastes lovely, and the wafers go really well with it. |
