Introduction
My southern roots are showing again. I love fried okra. Ok stop making that face.   When fried, okra isn't slimy.  I have used frozen sliced okra when fresh was not available. Place the frozen okra in a colander and let it thaw slightly, then prepare as directed below. Whole okra pods can also be used in this recipe and served with a dip as an appetizer or snack.
Ingredients

3 cups fresh sliced okra
1 cup all_purpose_flour
1 tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk
1 large egg
2 cups yellow cornmeal
4 cups vegetable_oil

Directions
Step: 1

Heat the oil in a deep skillet to 325°F. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl. Beat together the buttermilk and egg in a second bowl. Place the cornmeal in a third bowl.

Step: 2Place the okra in the seasoned flour first, knock off the excess flour and place in the buttermilk. Drain well. Coat with cornmeal and drop into fryer. Fry until golden, approx. 7 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

I must have been sleepy when I posted this recipe. The directions didn't even make sense to me! It's fixed now so try it and enjoy!
