Introduction
I learned to make tempura many years ago from a Japanese lady I knew. Hatsumi made wonderful tempura and taught me how to cut the various foods. Keeping each food uniform in size is important in this dish. I start cooking my vegetables and end with the meats.
Ingredients

Batter:
1 cup all_purpose_flour
1 cup ice water
1/2 tsp baking_powder
1/8 tsp sea_salt
1 large egg

Peanut_oil for frying

Directions
Step: 1

Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Beat egg with ice water and add to flour mixture. Mix until smooth. Batter will be on the thin side. Cut foods to the same size if possible to ensure even cooking.
Heat oil in a deep pot or deep fryer. Have all your foods cut and ready to cook before making batter. Dip pieces in batter and fry to a light golden brown.

Some suggested foods for tempurs:Chicken breast, firm white fish, asparagus spears, whole young green beans, sweet potato slices, whole mushrooms, whole or butterflied shrimp, green onions (cut half of green part away) strips of beef steak or pork, zucchini sticks, the variety of foods you can cook is up to your imagination.
