Introduction

I have had several marriage proposals over this sauce. It's tangy and smokey with a nice kick. This sauce should be used with meats that are cooked over slow coals and mopped on during cooking and is especially good with beef, such as a brisket. This is a thin sauce, more like a baste and it soaks into the meat as it cooks.

Ingredients

1 cup whiskey
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup cider_vinegar
1/4 tsp liquid_smoke or to taste
1/2 cup olive_oil
1 tsp cayenne_pepper
2 tsp sea_salt
1 Tbsp coarse grind black pepper
1 Tbsp mustard_powder
2 heaping Tbsp sweet paprika
2 garlic_cloves finely minced
1 large onion very finely minced
1 large red bell_pepper , finely minced

Directions
Step: 1

In a 1 quart (about) saucepan, heat olive oil. Add onion and bell pepper and cook until onion is golden, stirring often. Add paprika, garlic, pepper, cayenne and cook about 5 minutes. Add ketchup, molasses, liquid smoke and vinegar and cook just till hot. Remove from the heat and cool completely. Add salt and whiskey and mix well.
