Introduction

This is a great holiday activity for kids. The finished ornaments look so nice tied to packages or hung on the tree. Small shapes such as stars and little gingerbread men look festive when piled in a bowl and they smell great too! But remind your guests they aren't cookies! The ornaments last for years if stored in a zip lock baggie. A few drops of cinnamon oil will make them fragrant again. Fill a pretty jar with small shapes and give as gifts.

Ingredients

For Ornaments:
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup Ground Cinnamon ( can be part nutmeg for variety)

Equipment needed:
Plastic drinking straw
Raffia , ribbon or twine for hanging
Small cookie cutters
Cookie sheet
Vegetable pan spray
Spatula

Optional: Craft paints, sequins, beads, shells etc.

Directions
Step: 1

Heat oven to 175 degrees F.
Place cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Add applesauce, a little at a time to make a medium soft dough, like the the texture of pie crust . Sprinkle work surface with more cinnamon to roll out dough. Roll or pat the dough to about  1/4 inch thick.
Cut out shapes and poke a hole with the straw for the string to go through. Blow on the oposite end of the straw to get the dough plug out.Gently place on cookie sheet. Place ornaments in the oven and let dry, usually 3-4 hours, depending on thickness of the ornament. The ornaments should be hard all the way through. Your house will smell so yummy! Let shaped cool completely before appling any paint or glue.Thread a string through the hole and hang on your christmas tree.
