Introduction
Welcome your guests with a cup of hot mulled wine to warm them up. Most of the alcohol is burned off in the heating.
Ingredients

1 cup granulated_sugar
3 cups water
Zest of 1/2 lemon , about 2 Tbsps
18 whole cloves
1 medium orange, scrubbed and sliced
4 to 5 cinnamon sticks
1/2 vanilla bean, split and scraped (optional)
2 quarts burgundy or claret

Directions
Step: 1

In a 4 qt saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add sugar, spices, lemon zest, vanilla bean and half the orange slices. Simmer for about 10 minutes.Add 1 quart of the burgundy and bring to a full boil. Remove from heat and add the remaining burgundy. Strain through a cheese cloth lined mesh strainer. Pour into a crock pot to keep warm and add the remaining orange slices.

For a pretty presentation, rim pretty glass cups with granulated sugar or sanding sugar.
