Toad in the Hole | Status Approved | | Name | Toad in the Hole | | Category | European | | Serves/Yields | 4 servings | | Difficulty | Moderate | | Prep. Time | 5 minutes | | Cook Time | 45 minutes | | Introduction | | Kate asked me for some traditional English recipes, and I had to have a scour around for some as I never write down or take notice of how I make things, I just do it! Toad in the hole is my favorite, it reminds me of growing up with my dad and my sister and the smell of a nice warm kitchen on a cold rainy day. | | Ingredients | | 100g / 4oz all purpose flour 1/2 level teaspoon of salt 1 egg 270 ml / 9fl oz milk 225g / 8oz pork sausage links
| | Directions | | Step: 1 | Pre heat oven to 200 C / 400F/gas mark 6, and grease a shallow oven proof dish. | | Step: 2 | Place the flour, egg, milk and salt in a large mixing bowl and whisk until smooth and lump free. | | Step: 3 | Place sausages in the greased dish in a single layer then pour over the batter. | | Step: 4 | Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until well risen and golden brown.
Note: Try not to open the oven door during the cooking process or pudding may not rise. Serve immediately with an onion gravy and chopped cabbage or other green vegetable. |
