Introduction
I developed this recipe because the commercial meals were so expensive and never provided enough food for a hungry hiker. This was a big hit with everyone. Ramen noodles can be used as well, just follow the alternative directions. I write out the cooking directions and stick it in a baggie in the pack.
Ingredients
1/2 cup dry tomato powder *
1 cup dehyderated mushroom pieces *
1 tsp dry basil
1/2 tsp ground oregano
1 tsp garlic_powder
1 tsp onion_powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup parmesan cheese from a can
Pinch of red_pepper_flakes (optional)
1 cup dehyderated cooked ground beef (optional and only if sauce is to be used soon) *
Angel hair pasta or 2 bricks ramen noodles
Directions
Step: 1Combine all ingredients except noodles and beef if using in a zip lock baggie.
At camp, Bring 2 quarts salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook till very al dente. Drain off 3/4 of the water.
Add the contents of the sauce packet and cook, stirring often until pasta is done and sauce is thickened.

For ramen noodles: Boil 3 cups water, add the sauce packet and cook for about ten minutes. Remove from the heat and add the noodles. Cover pot and let sit for 4 minutes, stir and serve.

* I dehydrate very ripe roma tomato slices, thinly sliced, until crisp. Place in a blender or food processor and grind until a powder.

* I thinly slice button or crimini mushrooms and dehyderate until completely dry.

* I brown chili grind beef (I grind my own) and brown it throughly. Drain the cooked meat on paper towels and then dehyderate until very dry. Pack into a seperate baggie. To add to the spaghetti, pour about 1/2 cup warm water into the baggie and leave for 30 minutes to
rehyderate.
