Time | 5 minutes | | Cook Time | 30 minutes total | | Introduction | | While this may not be an authentic sauce, it's a tasty and easy one to make. I use this in my Easy Enchilada Casserole. This is also good as a base for chili, or poured over chicken before baking. This is a very mild sauce, some tobasco or red pepper flakes can be added to turn up the heat. | | Ingredients | | 2 Tbsp paprika 1 1/2 Tbsp chili_powder 3/4 tsp salt 1 tsp garlic_powder 1 tsp onion_powder 1 tsp cumin 1/2 tso ground oregano 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper 1 Tbsp tomato_paste 2 level Tbsp flour 2 cups water or broth ( I usually use chicken broth) | | Directions | | Step: 1 | In a skillet over low heat place cumin, chili powder, paprika and oregano. Toast the spices, stirring often until warm and fragrant. Add the flour and cook about five more minutes, stirring often. | | Step: 2 | Add the liquid, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powders. Bring to a low boil and cook, stirring often until sauce begins to thicken a little (sauce will be thin). Add the tomato paste and stir well to blend. Cook ten more minutes. |
