Introduction
I use this syrup in drinks and on fruit salads. You can flavor it many ways, with citrus peel, cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans ( thats my favorite). I make vanilla iced tea by using the syrup as  the sweetener. This syrup is also the base for fruit coulise and sorbets...and the popular Orange Julius.
Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups cold water
1 split vanilla bean (optional)
lemon or orange peel (optional)
Cinnamon stick (optional)

Directions
Step: 1Place water and sugar in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil. If adding  spices or citrus peel add them at the boil. Cook for 10 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve and store in a glass jar or bottle in the refigerator.
