Perc's Place, Suite 146, 1876 Cooper Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y9N6

Recently, my daughter and I visited my sister and her boyfriend in Kelowna, British Columbia. As I was too scared to rent a car because of the snow (and the lack of experience of driving in snow I have from living in England), we would catch the bus into Kelowna town to go to the mall or food shopping. Because the bus only ran once off of the mountain per day and one back, a couple of times we found ourselves sitting around waiting for the bus. In minus 25C, you don't want to be sitting outside!! Anyway, near to the supermarket we went to (Save on Foods, Cooper Road), in the same little stretch of shops, was a little cafe on the corner called Perc's Place (known by locals as Perc's). We decided to use it as a shelter from the cold and have a coffee and a snack there. Decorated festively with snowmen and tinsel in the windows, it felt really homely. We walked in, and the cafe was clean, it smelt of fresh coffee and it was tidy. The lady behind the counter was really friendly and polite. I ordered a coffee for me and an apple juice and sausage roll for my daughter, Keri (at a total cost of $3.50CA). For those who don't know, Keri is very fussy with her food, and sausage rolls are her favourite snack food! If they are not just right, she won't eat them. Sausage rolls are a very English thing, so I was a bit surprised to see them, and a little nervous when Keri asked for one - would the lady behind the counter be offended if Keri thought it was awful? Did this woman own the cafe? Was Keri going to tip it on the floor because it was so different to ours in England?!!

The coffee was lovely, not biter at all, and very smooth. I was pleased, just the thing to warm me up after walking from the mall (Orchard Retail Park) to Cooper Road. Keri loved her sausage roll. She ate every little scrap and then asked for another one to take away with us! It must have been good!

Over our time in Canada, we went back to that little cafe a few times and got quite chatty with the lady behind the counter. Her husband would come and sit in the cafe half an hour before her shift finished with their little baby, and Keri would play with their daughter. I have never felt such a friendly, family atmosphere in any cafe I have ever been in before. It was lovely. I would definitely recommend Perc's Place to anyone visiting that side of Kelowna, and if you do go, please say hi from Paula and Keri from England :-)
