I generally get my supermarket shopping from Tesco, but decided that this week I was going to check out their home delivery service rather than going in store myself.
I logged onto the website (www.tesco.com) and clicked on my account. I had already previously set up an account and added my clubcard details, so did not need to register. First of all I had to pick my delivery slot. These were split into 2 hour time slots, and each time had a different price. I chose Tuesday PM between 9pm and 11pm as this was the cheapest at £3.75. I clicked on the groceries section and had a load of sub sections on the top of the page - home, toiletries, fruit and veg etc. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to navigate myself around the screen, and for about 4 minutes I couldn't figure out how to get past the "offers" section! Once I had it figured out though, I was away pretty easily. When you click on "add to basket" you also have the option to add more than 1 item, and as soon as you have clicked, there is a little section on the right hand side which shows what is in your basket.
I finished my shopping and went to the pay screen, which was easy and self explanatory. After entering my card details, I chose for the system to remember my card so that I only have to enter my security code next time I visit. I was then emailed with a list of items and a delivery number to remind me of what I brought.
A few days after I placed my order, I remembered that I had forgotted to add Nori to my order, so I clicked into the email Tesco had sent to me and followed the link to add extra items to my list. You can do this (and also make any other changes) upto 10pm the night before your delivery. I was then emailed again with the changes I had made.
My order arrived tonight at 9pm exactly, and the guy brought it up the stairs to the front of my house. He was friendly, and explained to me that a couple of items were unavailable, and had been substituted. I did not have to accept the substitutions if I did not want to, which I didn't, and he refunded the money for these items onto his little hand held computer thingy (at this point, no money had actually been deducted from my card). I was then left to put my shopping away.
Upon putting my things away, I ticked them off of my list printed from my email. Everything I had ordered was there (except for the things I had refused because they were substitutions) and so was an extra random bottle of floor cleaner! Whilst I do not mind getting things for free, this does mean that someone else is missing at least 1 item off of their shopping.
All in all, I think having my shopping delivered by the store was a good thing. My fruit was fresh, nothing was bruised, and all of the expiration dates were what I would have chosen. This has saved me the 2 hours it would normally take me to traipse around Tesco! Yes - with a 4 year old it does take that long to do a weekly shop because every 5 minutes she needs the toilet or wants to play with the make-up on the make-up section, has tantrums or does other pre-schooler things that make a normal chore seem to take forever!!! As a single mum with a full time job, I would definitely recommend Tesco Home Delivery service - BUT - pick your delivery slot wisely, it could cost you up to £6.99!! |
